About Coating Spot
Who do you work with?
We work with the trade: roofing contractors, concrete coating contractors, distribution houses and resellers. If you're a homeowner, a professional applicator can help with your project.
Is Shieldcoat available in the US?
Yes. Shieldcoat is building its US distribution network, and Coating Spot is an Authorized Shieldcoat Distributor. Not every product in the Australian range is stocked in the US yet, so contact us to check availability.
Product
What pack sizes do products come in?
Shieldcoat products ship in metric pails: 4 L (1.06 US gal), 10 L (2.64 US gal) and 15 L (3.96 US gal), depending on the product. For example, Roofbond comes in 15 L pails and Step Safe HD in 4 L and 10 L pails.
How much area does a pail cover?
| Product | Spread rate | Per pail |
|---|---|---|
| Roofbond, Nanobond, Thermobond HRC | 5–6 m²/L (≈204–244 ft²/US gal) | 15 L: ≈75–90 m² (≈810–970 ft²) |
| Step Safe HD | 3 m²/L (≈122 ft²/US gal) | 10 L: ≈30 m² (≈320 ft²) |
| Shieldseal W Plus | Up to 12 m²/L (≈489 ft²/US gal) | Depends on pack size |
Actual coverage depends on substrate condition, porosity and application method. Always check the current TDS.
What are the cure and traffic times for Step Safe HD?
Touch dry in 30 minutes, recoat in 1–2 hours, foot traffic overnight and vehicle traffic after 10 days. Apply the Concreshield Clear topcoat the next day.
How fast can roof membranes be recoated?
Roofbond and Nanobond are touch dry in 30 minutes and recoat in 2 hours. Thermobond HRC is touch dry in 60 minutes and recoats in 4 hours. Apply between 7 and 35 °C (≈45–95 °F).
What does a P5 slip rating mean?
P5 is the highest wet-pendulum classification under Australian Standard AS 4586. It isn't a US rating: US specifiers usually reference ANSI A326.3 DCOF or other ASTM-based testing. A P5 rating alone does not establish ADA or OSHA compliance. [Ask Shieldcoat USA for US DCOF test data]
Which primer should I use?
It depends on the substrate and its condition. Start with our primer selection guide, or call us with the roof type and age.
Can Shieldcoat products be used on asphalt shingle or low-slope commercial roofs?
[We're confirming US substrate approvals with Shieldcoat USA.] Contact us before specifying Shieldcoat on asphalt shingle, TPO, EPDM, modified bitumen or SPF roofs.
Compliance & warranty
What warranty comes with Shieldcoat products?
Shieldcoat backs its systems with manufacturer warranties, which vary by product and system. [Confirm US warranty terms, who issues them, and whether approved-applicator registration or certification is required]
Are the products VOC compliant in my state?
Roofbond, Nanobond, Thermobond HRC and Step Safe HD clean up with water. The Concreshield primer and clear used in the Step Safe HD system are solvent-based. VOC limits differ by region (EPA AIM, OTC states in the Northeast, CARB and SCAQMD in California). Check your local VOC rules before specifying, and contact us for product VOC data.
Do you provide TDS and SDS?
Yes. Request any sheet from our spec sheet library and we'll email the current version.
